Code, Tests, and Teamwork: Girls in ICT Day at Codolis

Naslovna za blog

April 24th is International Girls in ICT Day — a reminder to celebrate the women shaping the tech world with their work, talent, and dedication. Instead of looking back at historical milestones, we’re focusing on the present this time. We’re highlighting the voices of four women from our team whose impact on the projects they lead is undeniable.

Although women are still underrepresented in engineering roles globally, making up only one-third of the workforce, we’re proud that Codolis tells a different story. Over 43% of our engineers are women, building solutions for clients in industries like automotive, legal tech, healthtech, fintech, and more.

In this blog, they share what led them to IT — whether it was a clear choice from the start or something they grew into. We asked them about their early interests, like math, how they’ve grown in their careers, and the role communication skills play in their everyday work.

Here’s what they had to say.

Ivana Dobranić – QA Engineer

Ivana za blog

Ivana didn’t start in tech. She studied education and worked in teaching before discovering Quality Assurance. “I’ve always loved digging into problems, being organized, spotting the tiniest imperfections,” she says. Today, she works on a healthcare software platform, where she handles both manual and automated testing, and collaborates closely with dev and product teams.

The best part is catching a bug before the user does. That ‘aha!’ moment is so rewarding.

Ivana sees attention to detail, adaptability, and clear communication as key skills in IT. Her advice to girls thinking about tech?

Be curious, be bold. Every step counts – even the small ones. You already bring so much from other parts of life. IT is not just about code – it’s about people, organization, empathy, teamwork.

Milica Poparić – Software Engineer

Milica za blog

Milica is working on one of the largest court platforms, and her sense of humor brings the tech to life: “It’s the kind of application Walter White or Saul Goodman might’ve used – if they were real.

Milica didn’t always know she’d end up in IT, but her early love for math was a clear sign she was drawn to structure and problem-solving. Once she discovered programming, something just made sense — not just the logic behind it, but the satisfaction that comes from building something functional and useful.

What keeps her motivated is the process of untangling complex problems and arriving at a solution that works — that precise moment when everything aligns and you understand why it works.

Effective communication and collaboration let you see the bigger picture – and create better solutions.

Sara Petrović – Software Engineer

Sara za blog

Sara acquired her education at the Faculty of Technical Sciences studying to be a software developer, and she’s currently focused on refactoring communication layers between systems.

Though she didn’t always envision herself in IT, she says she was drawn by the pace of tech and its ability to shape the world. What keeps her going is the feeling of growth.

I love that my work solves real problems and makes life easier for people. That impact motivates me.

For Sara, critical thinking, adaptability, and communication are crucial.

Ask questions. Stay open to learning. Believe in yourself.

Sunčica Kijac – Software Engineer

Suncica za blog

Sunčica works on a long-term enterprise solution for court management, helping public institutions digitize their operations. She focuses on developing new features, fixing bugs, and improving performance.

I didn’t always know I’d end up in IT. I was more into social sciences, but over time I developed a strong passion for math and problem-solving—seeing math problems as challenges to overcome. That mindset eventually led me to programming, a field that perfectly blends logic and creativity, and allows me to express both.”

She thrives on technical challenges and the opportunity to build something meaningful with her team.

Working with talented people on real-world problems is a huge motivator.

Whether they always knew they wanted to be engineers and started their journey at a technical faculty, or discovered a love for problem-solving along the way, these engineers at Codolis all have one thing in common: a curiosity that grew into a calling.

If you’re considering a career in IT, their message is simple: there’s no single path – and no reason to wait. Engineering is about learning, solving problems, building things that matter, and bringing your unique perspective to the table.
